Arran- departing on the 09:45 ferry from Ardrossan and returning on the 19:20 from Brodick will provide sufficient time for several of the classic hill walks, including Goat Fell, Beinn Nuis or the Witches step or there's Holy Isle (a must if you've not been) or the Cock of Arran walk if cloud is low.  Regular buses make travel along the coast quite easy.
The trip is worth it for the CalMac ferry big breakfast alone!
