Log 3 Aug 2008

3rd August 2008 - originally planned for Glen Feshie

Despite quite detailed plans made earlier in the week, the weather forecast across Scotland was mixed so we decided to stay local and visit Glen Dochart on Sunday.   Koon, Andy, Malcolm, and Laurence ventured to Glen Dochart and parked on the A85 just east of Ben More, and setting off at 8:45 for MEALL GLAS.

The midges followed us for about an hour as they can fly faster than we can walk uphill.
A brief path soon became a bog, then an indistinct path took us to the summit by 11:15.
The weather was mixed with an odd shower. Some hills were in sunshine, some in heavy rain.
After some lunch we descended the steep slopes to another bog before the long steep slog up 300m to SGIATH CHUILL   We came across a herd of deer approx. 100 strong so stopped and had our last snack and watched them for about 10 minutes crossing the valley floor.
A final bog hopping took us back to the stream and path. The sun warmed and dried us as we approached the road. However with about 10 minutes to go to the car the heavens opened to ensure that it was 4 soggy walkers reaching the car at 3:15.

Against normal tradition we decided (OMG!) to go for tea and cakes (?) but it took us 3 attempts to find a suitable hostelry - the Lade Inn.

Home by 5:30, in daylight! Whatever next.
