TULLOCH Weekend 7-9 April 2017

Six members attended this year’s winter weekend at Tulloch Station hostel. Travelling in 3 groups John, Eunice and KMC member Brian; Kevin and Allan Gilliland; Alex.
This report will cover only the climbs undertaken by Kevin, Allan G and Alex.
On Friday 7th Kevin and Allan G arrived at the head of Glen Roy at 13:30 parking just short of Brae Roy lodge.  Crossing the Turret bridge we headed north up Glen Turret and onto the SE shoulder of CARN DEARG (south) passing some interesting chimney remains of old settlement. We reached the summit around 16:00.   Dropping to the coll at the head of Gleann Eachach we proceeded north reaching the summit of CARN DEARG ( north) at 1710.   Both summits were cloud free with good all round views. The descent route over Teanga Mhor took us back to Glen Turret and back to the car by 1930.
We met up with the rest of the group at Tulloch station hostel for dinner.

Saturday 8th was a warm blue sky day and Kevin, Allan and Alex drove down Loch Arkaig and parked at Strathan at 09:00.
Two Corbetts : FRAOCH BHEINN and SGURR COS NA BREACH LAOIDH were the day’s challenge.
We headed up the southern ridge of Fraoch Bheinn over a number of outlying tops to reach the summit at 11:30.
Retracing our footsteps SE we eventually headed east crossing the Dearg Allt track to reach the SE ridge of Druim a’ Chuirn which eventually led to an interesting horseshoe passing a rocky outcrop with Chioch before leading the Summit of Sgurr Cos na Breach Laoidh at 15:00.   The SW ridge descent took us to Glendessary lodge and then back along the track to Strathan at 17:30.   Great day with fantastic weather and all round views to Knoydart and beyond.

On Sunday Alex headed off early to climb Meall Dubh in Glen Morison and maybe Carn a Chuilinn via Glen Doe (bike required) ..
Kevin and Allan headed back up Glen Roy to climb the Graham ' LEANNA MHOR (west) and then north on to the Corbett ' BEINN IARUINN.
We parked opposite Achavady ruins at 09:00 and headed north over both hills returning to the coll between the two before heading downhill and a walk along the parallel roads and back to the car at 14:30.
Cloudy on higher tops but we remained dry and had good views of the surrounding  glens and parallel roads.
Kevin dropped off at Ballachulish and Allan back home for teatime.
Great weekend and thanks to John for organising.

MMC Tulloch Station weekend. Sunday 9/4/17. Day 2. Decided to go and climb MEALL DUBH from Glen Morriston.    Left hostel at 06:30.
Started off just after 07:30 from the big parking spot opposite the gate.   Cycled up to 350m left bike and headed up using GPS as tops all in low cloud.
Map on GPS suddenly blanked out so ended up at a cairn 2km from summit.   Followed compass bearing and found the big summit cairn after passing several turbines.
Spooky whooshing noise in mist.  Then used GPS track to cut back to where bike was left.   No idea why the map failed.
Returned home, to see our son back from Austria, by mid afternoon.
15k; 73m ascent/ descent; 4 hours.
