Log 6 July 2013

The Programme Walk was to go to the Loch Quoich area but due to the weather forecast in this area being poor a decision was made to head east.
Six members met at Car Park at 06.30 and Kevin and Fraser  headed off to do a Corbett in the Crieff area, while Jim, Shirley, Robert & Ian headed to Inverey to tackle IUTHARN MHOR and CARN BHAC.
We arrived at Inverey and started the long walk up Glen Ey at 09:30 into a strong head wind in sunny conditions.
The summit of Iutharn Mhor was reached at 13:40 where a 15 minute break was taken before heading for Carn Bhac which was reached at 15:50.
After another short break we headed back to Inverey, arriving at 18:00 hrs.
Overall walk approx 30Km, 1140m ascent, 8.5 hrs.
We then headed back to Milngavie but A93 closed at Bridge of Cally due to accident. Detoured via Pitlochry and managed refreshments at the old favourite, Moulin Inn.   We arrived back in Milngavie at 21:30.
A long but good walk in great weather.
Report by Ian Gilmour

While Kevin drove, Fraser was instructed to look in the Corbett book and find one, not too far away, that Kevin had not done.   Lacking the OS map of the area, we decided that ACHNAFREE HILL was a good option, using the recommended route from Glen Turret, starting at the dam.   Initially glowering cloud covered all the hills, but it was starting to lift by the time we had passed the loch.   The summit on its very broad plateau was reached by 11:30 and lunch was taken in the shelter of the large cairn as the breeze was chilling.  Heading south across the plateau, the sun broke through, the temperature rose, and in sunshine we added Choinneachain Hill before descending to the dam.   Scenery was delightful, and lower down, many families were heading for picnics on the lochside.
Time for our circuit, 5 hours.
Quick visit to the distillery shop  on the way back, and a stop at a very indifferent pub in Crieff.
