Log 5 Jan 2019

Hilton to Milton - Saturday 5th Jan 2019

We left Milngavie carpark in 2 cars at 08:00.
The Contemplatives: Dave, Bria, and Allan C drove well up the John Muir Way past Eden Mill and started walking from there.
The Chargers: Alex, Phil, Iain W with big pack, Donald, Kevin, Lily and Rosie left from the Carbeth Inn.

The day was cold, clear and dry.  The moor was also surprisingly dry underfoot.  The John Muir trail made for easy walking south of Burncrooks Reservoir. Dave and Bria returned home after ascending Duncolm.
The rest of us all met on the slope of Fynelock Hill, after the Chargers had traversed 2 or 3 Duncolm hills.  We all followed an ATV track south of Fyn Loch and over a style to Black Linn reservoir where we split so Fraser and Allan walked down Overton moor to Westwind.
The Chargers ascended Doughnot Hill then walked the Lang Craigs, and through fields to Westwind.
We all arrived between 13:30 and 14:00.  A flock of long tailed tits on feeders greeted the newcomers.
Beers, crisps, a fire, homemade soup, more beer, sandwiches, sausage rolls, more beer, then one or more whiskies.  Scapa Skiren was the star turn.  Iain surprised me with a bottle of Malt as thanks for the day.

Everyone finally got dropped off at Dalmuir to be home in time for supper.  5 hours of walking, 13 to 15km, in bracing cold dry weather, with great chat, food and drink, and a generally lovely day out.
