ARTHURíS SEAT - Saturday 3 January 2015

Kevin, Donald and Allan met up at Buchanan Station in time to catch the 09:00 bus to Edinburgh.†† Arrived Edinburgh at 10:15.†† As no hostelries were open at this time in the morning we headed via the George VI bridge and the Royal Mile down to the Bastion that is the Scottish Parliament.†† We then headed up the Radical Road path below the Salisbury Crags to join the main paths along the top of the Crags and then back to the steps which climb almost to the top of Arthurís Seat.†† Some minor scrambling involved in the final approach to the trig point at 251m (Marilyn).†† Due to the relaxed pace and great weather and views over the city we did not reach the summit until 12:30.†† Lunch was taken and then we headed† east down to Duddington where we found ourselves in the Sheep Heid Inn (Est. 14th Century) where Queen Mary apparently had enjoyed a game of skittles.† We will book a game on our next visit.

Thirst quenched we headed back to the city centre following a clockwise route around the base of the Seat and back to Princes Street.†† Our next hostelry was the Guildford Arms West Register Street which has a good selection of real ales followed by the Cafe Royal, 18 Register St.† Headed for bus station to get the 17:15 and back in Glasgow at 18:30.†† Great day, company and beer.
