Beinn A’Bheithir (Sgorr Dhearg and Sgorr Dhonuill) - Sun 2 October 2016

Dave K, Andy, Eunice, John B, Steve, Ron and prospective member, Nick Harrington on his second outing with the club, left Milngavie at 7:00 on what proved to be perfect weather for hillwalking; warm and sunny with light wind.

Dave and Andy climbed the Corbett, Meall Lighiche, whilst the others climbed the two Munros of Beinn A'Bheither at Ballachulish (this report).

Parking the cars at the Ballachulish primary school car park the party set off at 9am to climb the east ridge to Sgorr Bhan following a decent path once the initial boggy section was passed.
The climb included an enjoyable scramble up some rocky steps on the way to Sgorr Bhan before reaching Sgorr Dhearg at 11:30.
We followed the path down to the 757m bealach before ascending the east ridge to Sgorr Dhonuill (12:30) where we had lunch.
Retracing our route to the 757m bealach we descended north into the forest following an initially steep path before entering the forest from where the route back to the A82 at St John’s church was well signposted along paths and tracks, eventually arriving back at the cars at 16:00.

We called into the Clachaig Inn for a refreshment on the way home. This being my first visit to the Clachaig in some 30 years I have to say it is looking very smart and trendy (even the Boot bar)…..probably too smart for mere mountaineers.....but it does have a decent selection of craft ales and lagers on tap.
