FRAOCH BHEINN, LOCH ARKAIG 17 AUGUST 2008
Jim MacK, Shirley McK, Dave K, Billy & Koon did SGURR NAN COIREACHAN and SGURR COS NA BREACHD-LAOIGH
Four walkers climbed FRAOCH BHEINN - Allan, Fraser, Mervyn & Ian Gilmore (new member).
Cars were parked at the gate at west end of Lock Arkaig NM 98758 91583.
Walked west for about 1km until just past Dearg Alt then followed path & the ridge to the summit. A fine hill, not too steep with grand views to Rhum & Egg through gaps in the hills to the west. There were also good views from the north top, and the intervening ridge gave spectacular views down into the NE corrie, where there had been a large landslide recently. A huge crack indicated where the next fall would be. Weather overcast mostly with warm wind.
We descended via the same ridge but turned left to descend into Dearg Alt glen. Not recommended, bracken covered boulder fields near the bottom made this slower than anticipated..
Started about walking 10:50 - got back to car about 4:30.
Left for Spean Bridge Commando Bar about 5pm.
It rained before & after whilst travelling.
