Log 12 Aug 2012

Alex, Billy, Fraser, Malcolm, Noelle and Ron set off on a promising morning for Victoria Bridge and the classic traverse of the Blackmount (4 Munros plus a top).   Fraser, having opted for a shorter day on Stob Ghabhar, got the job of collecting the rest at Glencoe Ski Centre, where we arrived after 10 hours of strenuous up-and -down (c. 20km and 1800m ascent).

On top of the first Munro (STOB COIRE ODHAIR) we were joined by a delightful American couple, David and Robin, over here on a lightning walking tour.   They will set up the Colorado chapter of MMC International!

Fraser met us briefly on STOB GHABHAR before we ploughed on over Aonach Mor and Bealach Fuar-chathaidh to the gruelling ascent of  Clach Leathad. Thereafter, the party split; 3 heading directly  to MEALL A’BHUIRIDH and descending down its S.E. ridge to the West Highland Way (or Old Military road), about 3km south of the ski centre, while the rest continued along the ridge to bag CREISE before returning to follow the first lot in descent.

After some car shuttling, all assembled at the Bridge of Orchy Hotel, where Robin generously stood the beers (must try to collect overseas visitors more often).

A superb, if long, day when the weather was just right for walking:  sufficient breeze and cloud to keep us cool but never enough to spoil the views.
