Log 1 July 2017

EASTERN MAMORES - Saturday 1 July 2017

An unsettled weather forecast saw only three turn up at 07:00; Fraser, Allan Gilliland and Ron.

Parking at the car park next to the white church in Kinlochleven† at 09:15, Allan and Ron set off up the path towards Loch Eilde Mor.†† Where the path met the track from Mamore Lodge (an hourís walk), Allan went off to climb the Corbett, GLAS BHEINN (792m) on the south side of the loch whilst Ron headed north east to climb the Munro, SGURR EILDE MOR (1010m).††

Although the weather was decent on setting out, as the forecast was for low cloud and rain to come in from the west accompanied by an increasing wind (which turned out to be correct) Allan and Ron decided to only climb these two hills before returning separately to the car.
Allan crossed the western outlet from Loch Eilde Mor by a new bridge constructed as part of the hydro scheme and then made his way over the grass and heather covered broad SW ridge to the summit before retracing his steps and eventually returning to the car at 15:30.

Ron took the path to the loch in Coire an Lochain by which time the cloud was at ground level and raining heavily.† Taking the broad south ridge to the summit involved some decent scrambling over two rocky steps before being met with gale force gusts on reaching the summit cairn at noon.†† There were two cairns on the short summit ridge so both were taken in although Iím sure the western cairn was the summit.††† Retracing my steps I reached the car at 15:40.

Fraser decided to take a low level walk eventually following the same path as Allan and Ron up to the Mamore Lodge track where he then headed west to the lodge before returning to the car and then on to the Tailrace Inn where Allan and Ron found him well into his second bottle of beer.
